Sweet Potato Casserole with Pecan Topping

Ingredients:


For the Sweet Potato Base:

  • 4 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 4 large sweet potatoes)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

For the Pecan Topping:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Cooking Instructions


  1. Prepare the Sweet Potatoes: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Boil or bake the sweet potatoes until soft, then peel and mash them in a large bowl.
  2. Make the Sweet Potato Mixture: Combine the mashed sweet potatoes with melted butter, brown sugar, heavy cream, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  3. Transfer to Baking Dish: Spread the sweet potato mixture evenly into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  4. Prepare the Pecan Topping: In a separate bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, melted butter, and chopped pecans until crumbly.
  5. Add Topping: Sprinkle the pecan topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture.
  6. Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve: Let cool slightly before serving. This dish pairs perfectly with turkey and other Thanksgiving sides!
